Frequently Asked Questions
About SEO Audits

SEO Audits are important because they tell you where your SEO currently stands. They illuminate issues that may prevent your website from ranking higher and driving more traffic.

If you’re investing in SEO, audits inform strategy. They can tell you what aspects of your SEO perform well and those that don’t. The benefit is that you’ll have more effective SEO.

How long your SEO Audit takes depends on the size of your site and amount of content you have. Each element of your site needs to be scanned and manually reviewed to get to the root of any problems.

On average, a full SEO audit takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks. If you have a small site without much content, it will take less time. Once the team has scanned and analyzed your on-page, off-page, and technical SEO factors, they’ll develop remediation plans and strategies prioritizing issues with the greatest impact. Fixing issues can take months and require many hours of specialist labor.

If you value organic traffic, if it’s a profitable channel for your business, and you’re investing in SEO, audits are worth it. BrightEdge writes SEO and paid search accounts for nearly 70% of all traffic with SEO accounting for 53%. Most agencies recommend full audits every six months, with smaller routine maintenance scans each month. SEO audits are worth it for any business investing in SEO. Without them, your SEO efforts could be for nothing.

After an SEO audit, the team will have a list of issues. Your remediation plan and strategy prioritize issues with the greatest impact. Once everything is prioritized, the team determines the resources necessary to address the issues and develops a detailed timeline and action plan. Typically, technical issues get worked on first because they are the foundation of your SEO, then content, and then off-page. Depending on your resources, these can also be done concurrently.

Local SEO audits have many of the same features as comprehensive SEO audits but evaluate specifically your relevance and authority within a discrete geographic area. Local SEO audits evaluate local keywords and content, technical SEO, local business profiles (Google My Business/Bing Places), reviews, local business listings and citations, as well as Analytics, Google Search Console, local competitors and backlinks. The goal of a local SEO audit is to drive more in-person visits, calls, and local online traffic.

Most SEO audits range from $3000-$5000. Enterprise SEO audits can exceed this amount by multiples, simply because there is more work to do. Sites with thousands of pages and systems cobbled together from different components present greater technical challenges. Page speed for instance, while hugely important, may not have a simple solution. It could be code, server, hosting, site architecture, or a combination. More pages also equals more content requiring manual review. Some issues may be addressed globally. Others may not. The good news is once you understand what’s working and what isn’t, you can prioritize and move forward.
